Donald Clayton Camp
November 3, 1949  -  December 13, 2017

Donald Clayton Camp, age 68, of Roswell, NM died peacefully in his home, Wednesday, December 13, 2017. All are welcome to attend a public viewing and visitation 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm, Saturday, December 16, 2017 at LaGrone Funeral Chapel.

Don was born November 3, 1949 in Hobbs, New Mexico to Lloyd and Georgia Camp. He graduated from Lovington High School in 1968. He graduated Stanford University in 1972 with a degree in political science. He then graduated from University of New Mexico with a Bachelor's of Science in 1978. (Someone couldn't make their mind up) Don and his wife Margie moved to Roswell in January 1978 for him to do a medical technologist internship. They fell in love with Roswell and never left.

Don worked as a laboratory technologist and managed medical labs for nearly 40 years. He started with Casa de Medicina, and through multiple mergers, he finished working with Kymera Independent Physicians. Don prided himself in running a meticulous lab to produce quality lab work and results for patients and their doctors. He was a perfectionist in the details of everything he did at work or at home.

The same people Don worked with over the years were the specialists and nurses who tended to him. Many thanks to Dr. Khorsand and Dr. Araujo at Kymera Oncology and their chemo staff, Deb, Phil, Amanda, Bessi, and Teresa for their loving care of Don. The nursing staff and ICU staff at ENMMC also gave Don excellent and loving care in the last weeks of his life.

Don's first love was his wife, and best friend, Margie. He gave her a kiss every morning before he left for work, and kissing her was his first job when he got home. They were best friends. Don and Margie talked about anything and everything, except politics. They wore out the walking trails along Spring River for years; they sat together on stadium bleachers to cheer on their boys; they spent hours harvesting pecans, tending to their garden, and making their home a welcoming place.

He also gave all his time and effort to raising his four boys, Noah, Samuel, Adam and Joseph. From first steps, camping trips and how to throw a baseball to driving lessons, wedding speeches, and holding his grandchildren, Don dedicated his life to being everything for his boys.

Don loved playing tennis, running, walking with his wife, Margie, hunting with his boys, and considering himself a literary and grammar critic.

Don is survived by his wife of 46 years, Margie Lewis Camp; children Noah Camp and his wife Kara, Samuel Camp, his wife Sarah, grandchildren Logan, Finley, and Emery; Adam Camp and his wife Kaitlin, grand-daughter Charlotte; Joseph Camp; and siblings David and Darrell Camp.
