KLUG, PEGGY – Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at South Park Cemetery for Peggy Klug, age 92, who passed away February 7, 2010. Fr. Juan Antonio Gutierrez will officiate.
Peggy was born on May 20, 1917 in Erie, PA. She grew up on a dairy farm and graduated from high school at St. Peter’s Cathedral in Erie. She attended St. Elizabeth’s College in Olean, NY where she received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration. She then worked in retail business.
Peggy and her husband, Pete (Peter Klug, Jr.), who passed away in December 2002, moved to Roswell in 1977. In 1979, she opened a small store at Alameda and Kentucky Streets in behalf of the Roswell Humane Society. A year later, the store was moved to a location on North Missouri Avenue. In January 1982, the Humane Society’s present facility opened with kennels and the thrift shop under one roof. Peggy remained as Manager of the Thrift Shop until her death.
Peggy’s first husband was killed in the Battle of the Bulge, and her only child, Ted Francisco, passed away in the 1980’s.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law: Gretchen Sanders (husband Lloyd) of Roswell, grandchildren, Mimi Francisco, Michelle Francisco, and Jackie Palmer; seven great grandchildren, all of Mayville, New York, step-daughter: Karen Hayward of Huntington Beach, CA; her special friends: Susan Cain and JoanYoung of Roswell and many nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved very much.
Peggy was a lifetime member of the Roswell Humane Society, a member of the auxiliary of the Eastern New Mexico Medical Center, Senior Circle and NARFE. Please remember Peggy by sending memorials in her name to the Roswell Humane Society, 703 E. McGaffey, Roswell, NM 88203.
Pallbearers will be Mike Alber, Cody Carey, Bill Golden, Andrew Gross, Art Sandoval and Marshall McShan. Honorary pallbearers are David Finley, Wayne Rogers, Lloyd Sanders, Johnny Young, Bob Zettel and all Roswell Humane Society employees and volunteers.
