Dorothy Jane (Strong) Cook was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on July 27th, 2017. At 100 ½ years old, Dorothy had lived a full and wonderful life. Dorothy’s main focus in life was her love and devotion to Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior and her family. Dorothy’s goal was to have every one of her family members be believers in Christ. Dorothy was a pioneer in her own time. Raised as a “city girl” in Wellington, TX, Dorothy had to reinvent herself as a farmer’s wife without the luxuries she had grown accustomed to.

Dorothy was very talented in the Arts. She loved her piano, china and oil painting, and gardening. In her love and growth in these arts, she was a member of the Roswell China Painting Club, Roswell Garden Club and Roswell Iris Society. She also served as a judge in the State of NM to judge Iris shows. She was a holder of many championship ribbons in her Iris and floral presentations.

Dorothy and her family moved to Roswell, NM in 1957. She was a devoted member of Calvary Baptist Church in Roswell where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years. Dorothy was also a Welcome Wagon greeter for the Chamber of Commerce as well as an Eastern Star.

Dorothy Jane (Strong) Cook was born on December 25th, 1916 in Wellington, TX to James M (JM) Strong Sr and Ethel Jolly Strong. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband J.N. Cook, two sons, William M. Cook and Tim Cook and four brothers. She is survived by her sister, Rosemary Cunningham of Amarillo, TX; two children, Judith McDonald of Roswell, NM and P. Dan Cook of California. Dorothy has left a legacy behind with ten grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

A viewing will be held at Lagrone Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, August 2nd from 5-7PM and services will be at Calvary Baptist Church at 1009 West Alameda in Roswell on Thursday, August 3rd at 10AM. Graveside burial will be at 3PM at South Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, family requests that you make a donation to a charity of your choice in her name.
